PROM FAQs

Questions? We have answers!
What is PROMdemonium?
It's Ottawa's radical, community-oriented, gender-bending, bike-loving, enviro-humping, queer-diggin, slow dancing, big dress wearing prom that you never had. PROM is a fundraiser for local community initiatives and creative resistance.
When and where is this not-to-be missed extravaganza?
It's on Saturday April 9th from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and we'll be rocking out at the National Arts Centre! The NAC's Panorama and Fountain Rooms to be exact. Enter at any door on the main floor and take the red stairs from the lobby or elevator to the 2nd floor. There will be signs to direct you or just look for the PROMtastically-dressed people. We should be easy enough to distinguish from the orchestra-goers.
How much are tickets?
Tickets are sliding scale @ $10-$20
There are also 100 lower-income accessible tickets will be sold @ $5
If you have more, pay more. It's a FUNdraiser!
Where are the proceeds going?
PROMdemonium is a fundraiser for local community initiatives and creative resistance that work for social, economic and environmental justice. The recipients of the 2011 PROM Fund are: Books to Prisoners Ottawa; POWER (Prostitutes of Ottawa/Gatineau - Work, Educate, Resist); Unconditional Love, Unconditional Choice; Organizing for Justice, and The Leveller. Learn more about the Fund and these PROMtastic initiatives.
Can I give more to these great initiatives?
There will be lots of opportunities to throw in some extra cash at PROMdemonium, including coat check donations, the Kissing Wheel and some amazing pieces of home decor available for silent auction. If you want to donate directly to the PROM Fund initiatives, contact us at promdemonium@gmail.com or bring your donation to PROM.
How do I get to the National Arts Centre (NAC)?
The NAC is at 53 Elgin, which is smack-dab in the middle of Ottawa's downtown. There is parking at the NAC but it costs and is first-come-first-served (there are a number of other events the same night as PROM). Besides, it is more fun and earth-friendly to walk, bike or take the bus in your magnificent PROM outfits!
What should I wear?
Something fabulous. For inspiration, check out some of the stunning attire from years past.
Is the venue accessible?
Yes. The NAC has accessible entrances, washrooms and an elevator to the 2nd floor, where the party will be.
Is it all ages?
Yes, the event is all ages. If you want to buy alcohol, you may be required to present ID at the bar proving that you are 19+. Please note: the profits from alcohol sales stay with the venue and do not benefit the PROM fund.
Will there be dancing?
Of course! We'll be grooving to DJ Sweet Cheeks, DJ Chris International, and CPI, with a special performance by Sophie from Mini Cirque!
Can I help out?
You bet! Check out our awesome volunteer jobs and find out how to apply. You can score a free ticket and be involved in the creation of what's quickly becoming an Ottawa institution!
